The pains of growing up
I was hoping by these months of absence, people would forget this blog. The alarming high readership rate previously scared me knowing that my private life is openly read in the net by perhaps strangers. Only those who really cared would check on this eventually.
The truth is, no one knows when they're grown up. Is it a measure of intellect? Or a measure of maturity? Of self-awareness? There are many people who are by nature a cut wiser than the rest. Do not confuse wise and smart. Any smart person can be the greatest douche in the world. A wise person is one who have learned through the many experience that he have gone through. And he seeks to improve himself and those around him.
Staff Kevin, one of my lecturers in Military Police Training School now, told us in his first lecture that all of us haven't been through the worst in life. The mark of a mature person, he claims is someone who have done an accomplishment be it climbing the Mount Everest, run the Sahara Desert marathon, own the largest oil industry or even more daily things like cleaning your bed or found a new part-time job and yet, chooses to keep the news to himself. To be humble. The mark of a mature person is one who have gone through the most experience but yet, chooses his words wisely and let the less experienced share theirs... and at times giving them advice or a tip or two. Of course, it got me thinking of myself. Was I mature enough?
No, I wasn't. And perhaps I'll never be. But whatever the case is, I choose to stay true to myself and always be who I am.
