Cogito Ergo Sum

Never was a big fan of Rene Descartes but his works have lately caught my attention. This latin phrase, cogito ergo sum which literally means "I think, therefore I am" is so simple and yet confoundingly profound. The basis of this philosophy is that being able to reason things out, that is, "think" just proves that we exist in this world. We are not the phantom of anyone's else memory or just a figment of an imaginative eternal dream. We breathe and we eat with our own will, and this world is not some inception. Plainly, we exist to see another day.
Just like how Bhuddism teaches Man to value every life as life is sacred. The very fact that we exist in this world though our origin and purpose may never be scientifically and accurately found proves that we are not insignificant. Cogito Ergo Sum. I think. I have the ability to choose and see reason. Just by thinking, "Am I alive? What is the defination of living?" no matter how ironic it may seem proves to me as do Descartes and billions others that this world is as real as it can get. The only exception is this: So what if I know I exist?
Everyone comes to a stage in their life thinking, what do I do with my own life? They have not found their calling and many will never find it but before we proceed and hastily throw our fates into the wind, stop and wait. The calling have always been there. Personally for me, my sole purpose in life is to be a humble servant to God and this drives me to excel in everything I do.
Many a times, people tell me, choose either the world or the Hereafter. Sacrifice your worldly desires by investing in the Hereafter. Choose wisely. Rationally, any God-fearing individual would strive to cut back on the distracting worldly desires. And there are those who simply could not be bothered. Think. Know Thyself. As much as I believe that the Hereafter is far more important than this tainted, corrupted world, I see no reason to believe that we have to be subjected to slavery and voluntary persecution. We should all emulate this: To control of our world around us which includes ourselves without letting the world control us. Our hands enclosed around our worldly actions but our heart firmly facing the Hereafter. God knows more.
