The Rainbow Troops (laskar pelangi)
Laskar Pelangi or Rainbow Troops in English. I LOVE this very much guys. I have been reading this book lately and it is in Malay. Yeap, Malay is my mother tongue language by the way. Written by Andrea Hirata and then later adapted into a film, it tells the tale of a bunch of poor village kids who are determined to live up their dreams and to simply enjoy life. And yeah, there is this extremely beautiful song sang by Nidji that goes with the same title which I want you guys to think about later on. I'll give the translation too... Sigh <3
Blinded by high expectations, materialistic aims, fortune and fame in this world, we often forget that we have THIS little time left to enjoy it. Recently, one of my teacher's friend passed away from cancer and it was all over the Singapore news. He was successful in life, earning by the millions a year but all he had he said was a waste for he was going to die very soon. He wished he could die "hugging his Ferrari". In the pursuit of wealth and name, we forget the pursuit of happiness for us and for others. When we finally return to the Lord, it is not the villas that we have that people remember but our laughters with others, our kind smiles, the soft legacy touched upon the innermost of every individual.
I strongly believe that a child has the true answer to what we want to be later in life. As we age, our dreams of being astronauts and presidents are distorted by materialistic pressures and they become doctors and lawyers. Why not astronauts? Why not the President? My friends, if we are ever to be happy in this world, live the way your younger self would be proud and happy for.
